Return to Making Foam

Conc – Foam Concentrate System

W + Conc (=Sol) + A + A = Foam (Foam is Bubbles and bubbles is Water)

There are two different ways to add Concentrate: Batch Mixing and Concentrate System.

A Concentrate System is a machine that simply adds Concentrate to the Water to make Solution.

There are different types of systems or pumps available to add A-Foam Concentrate (Bladder, ADI, ATP, etc.) All have one purpose – add the desired/directed % of concentrate to the water.

One of the biggest failures in working with Foam, especially CAF, is forgetting to turn on the Concentrate pump. Many Concentrate Systems have a RED button for just that purpose. Air and water (A + W) do not mix. Solution (W + Conc) does mix with air and when agitated forms bubbles.

Similar to learning the Water pump System, It is imperative that Engine Operators become familiar with the Concentrate System on their apparatus and insure that the system is functioning properly and TURNED ON when Foam is desired.

When learning the Concentrate System, is is important that the Operator doesn’t just learn the buttons, but also learns what the system is doing behind the pump panel. Several systems have functions that can be used as a by-pass in case of normal system malfunction. If something fails, what can the operator do to keep the Bubbles coming?

Remember – Foam = Water + Concentrate (=Sol) + Air + Agitation. Adding Concentrate to water is NOT rocket science.

Batch Mixing

W + Conc +A + A = Foam (Foam is Bubbles and Bubbles is Water) Batch mixing is a simple method for making Solution (W + Conc) without a machine, but as you read on, you’ll find there are considerations. Batch mixing – The simplest method to make Solution (W + Conc). Just pour the …
