Education and training are necessary in all aspects of firefighting.
Would any Chief hand over a heart monitor to an untrained Paramedic? It’s the same with a foam program.
While it’s been said many times that “Foam is Not Rocket Science” – that is said in reference to understanding how a bubble is made, and understanding that Bubbles are made of water.
Understanding the differences in concentrates, operation of proportioners, and understanding the tried and true methods of foam application takes education, practice, regular practice, and often times re-training. It’s the same with hose lays, ladder ops, ventilation, etc.
Efficiently applied foam protects the firefighters, extinguishes the fire faster and reduces the overall loss to the community.
