Often times firefighters want to learn the buttons but not what goes on behind the pump panel. Being a good Engineer or Operator means understanding what happens behind the panel.
Part of learning what happens behind the panel begins with the manufacturers documents provided with the rig. The manufacturer basically provides the documents explaning everything about the rig, including the system’s specs.
When it comes to purchasing foam concentrate, it is imperative that the product purchased is compatable witht he system. This requires knowing the viscosity and corrosivity of the product and the limits of the system.
Putting the wrong product in the system might cause failure to produce foam, damage to the system, and/or might void any warranty.
Communicate with your system manufacturer to identify acceptable foam concentrate products.
This communication also applies to other system products – ie. proper recommended hydraulic oils.
